Remote Time Tracking for Independent Contractors
Published {$created} by Tina Blum
Why Remote Time Tracking Matters
Through COVID, remote work became more common - and many companies has stuck which this way of working ever since (A big thank you from all us introverted people!)
But when you work remotely, it becomes harder for your client to see how hard you are working, and also harder for them to know what task you are working on. That's why tracking your time and your tasks is more important than ever. It creates transparency. And transparency is key when working remotely.
Trust and profesionalism
Tracking your time accurately shows that you take your work seriously.
It proves that your time and effort matters - both to you and your client.
It's not just about looking proffessional. It's also about documentation for the hours you have spent, and in matter of disagreement it's good to have your documented time tracking.
You will always be able to show when and how long you worked.
How many hours you spent on a project and if using task, you can make it even more clear.
Time-management and focus
Working remote, requires strong self managent. Even if you are at home, where laundry, dishes or dinner prep are just a few steps away, the work still needs to get done.
That's where structure makes a different (listen to the queen of structure! ---> me)
I would recommend using Nureti Calendar function.
It makes it easy to plan and track your day:
Every Friday, before ending my workday, I check any meeting or deadlines for the coming week
I block out these in the calendar ahead of time.
Every morning, I review the plan and assign time blocks for the tasks I need to that day.
This gives me a clear structure, and help me stay on track.
You can also use the calendar retrospectively, to log tasks after you’ve done them.
If you prefere tracking time like that, I would recommend you taking a look at either Nuretis Quick register or Timesheet.
You can read more about the Quick register here
or the timesheet right here
Data for improvement.
Tracking your time isn’t just about getting paid – even though that is obviously important. It also helps you understand how you actually work.
Nureti’s reports shows you where your time goes. Which tasks, which clients, and how long time it really takes.
Maybe some tasks take a lot longer than expected. Maybe one client eats up your week.
Seeing the full picture, you can spot patterns and find ways to improve your workflow.
Trust starts with transparency
Working remotely as a contractor your client doesn't see your daily effort. They see the results. And that is why transparency is so important.
You have to make clear and honest time tracking that will show them that you take your work seriously.
This builds trust and makes it easier for the clients to see your value, also it reduces the questions about invoices.
Being transparent helps create long-term relationships with your clients - and that's good business!
